The June European Council will focus on economic policy, addressing in particular the following issues:
- conclusion of this year's European Semester (coordination of member states' economic and fiscal policy), endorsing the Commission's country specific recommendations;
- implementation of efforts to boost competitiveness, growth and jobs, with emphasis on initiatives to enhance youth employment and the financing of the economy;
- progress on the completion of the EU's economic and monetary union, in particular the banking union.
Heads of state or government will also discuss Latvia's application to adopt the euro as its currency on 1 January 2014.
