A launch event, to kick off Single Market Week, will take place in Brussels on 15 October 2012.

The event will offer a unique opportunity for discussions and exchanges of views between citizens, businesses, stakeholders and prestigious guests such as President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz, President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy along with Michael Barnier, European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services, Jacques Delors, former President of the European Commission, and Members of the European Parliament.

The event will be focused on real stories and experiences of the Single Market and bring together more than 400 citizens from across the 27 Member States of the EU. The programme will focus on:

• achievements of the Single Market;
• challenges ahead for the Single Market;
• views and expectations of 20 year-olds from across Europe - our so-called "Generation 1992".

The event will consist of two "talk show" style sessions followed by the award ceremony of the "Generation 1992" competition.
