The Council, chaired by EU High Representative Catherine Ashton, will discuss the situation in the EU's southern neighbourhood, in particular the latest developments in Syria. A further topic of discussion will be Pakistan, following the recent visit of the EU High Representative to that country.
Moreover, the Council is due to debate recent developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina, following the meeting in May of the Peace Implementation Council, which monitors the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement.
Finally, the Council is expected to adopt an EU strategic framework on human rights and democracy and a related action plan and to appoint an EU Special Representative for Human Rights.
During lunch, ministers will exchange views on the talks held with Iran on its nuclear programme.
