Foreign Affairs (Trade) Council

Trade ministers, meeting within the Foreign Affairs Council, will hold a policy debate on green growth. The Council will also have a policy debate on future prospects of the EU/Japan trade relations, taking note of the state of play in the scoping exercise.

It will take stock of ongoing discussions in the EU-US high level working group for growth and jobs as well as the timetable for future work.

The Council will hold a policy debate on key outstanding issues in negotiations for a comprehensive economic and trade agreement (CETA) with Canada.The Council will also hold a policy debate on the contribution of trade to the growth agenda.

Over lunch, ministers will assess negotiations with India on a free trade agreement. They will also hold an exchange of views on EU-China trade relations.

The presidency will hold a press briefing in the Council press room on Wednesday 30 May at 14.00 (tbc).
A press conference will take place at the end of the meeting.
