Slovenia - Transport

Short-term priorities:

• Alignment of maritime safety laws.

Assessment (November 2000)

Slovenia has ratified the Paris Memorandum of Understanding on the port State control of ships. Rules have been adopted on examinations for pilots, as has a decree to reduce port dues for segregated ballast oil tankers.

Slovenia has adopted the Maritime Code and other texts relating to this field.

There has been no progress in this area.

Medium-term priorities:

• Additional efforts toward alignment with the Community acquis, in particular in the field of road transport (market access, safety rules and taxation) and rail transport;
• mobilisation of the investment needed in transport infrastructure (in particular for the extension of the trans-European networks).

Assessment (October 1999)

The Road Transport Act has been amended. Investment in infrastructure has also continued.

Assessment (November 2000)

In the road transport sector, legislation has been adopted on the transport of dangerous substances. The rules on weights and dimensions have been amended, as has the legislation on the safety of road transport.

Assessment (November 2001)

Slovenia has adopted a new law on carriage by road and air transport as well as the Maritime Code.

Assessment (October 2002)

Slovenia has made progress with aligning its rail transport legislation. Reinforcement of the new role and structures of the Slovenian Railway Organisation is under way; however, the law regulating the restructuring of the Slovenian railways has not yet been adopted.

Following the signing of the Accession Treaty on 16 April 2003, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia acceded to the European Union on 1 May 2004.
