Short-term priorities

  • application of legislation on health and safety in the workplace;
  • support for the social partners' capacity-building efforts, particularly within the bilateral social dialogue;
  • preparation of a national employment strategy.

Evaluation (November 2000)

There has been little progress in the application of legislation on health and safety in the workplace. A new labour inspection law has increased surveillance. The bilateral social dialogue needs to be consolidated.

Please refer to the fact sheets on the adoption of the Community acquis.

Medium-term priorities:

  • setting up of appropriate structures affecting the job market and jointly re-examination of employment policies in order to prepare for participating in co-ordination within the European Union;
  • aligning labour law and legislation on health and safety in the work place, particularly the speedy adoption of the framework directive on the health and safety of workers;
  • applying the principle of equal opportunities between men and women;
  • continuing to introduce active social dialogue;
  • continuing to set up targeted social welfare;
  • adopting measures for aligning public health criteria with European standards.
