Short-term priorities

  • to continue alignment of veterinary and plant health legislation and improve inspection;
  • to create a vineyard register.

Assessment (November 2000)

Little progress has been made on aligning veterinary and plant heath legislation and on improving frontier inspection posts. The vineyard register has not yet been completed.

Good progress has been made on aligning veterinary legislation. Efforts still need to be made in the plant health sector and as regards the establishment of inspection posts at the external borders. There has been some preparatory work on drawing up the vineyard register.

Alignment has continued in the veterinary and plant heath sectors.

  • developing the capacity to implement and enforce the common agricultural policy (CAP), in particular the fundamental management mechanisms and the administrative structures required in order to monitor the agricultural markets and to implement structural and rural development measures;
  • adopting and implementing veterinary and plant-health rules;
  • bringing certain food processing centres and testing and diagnostic facilities up to scratch;
  • restructuring the agri-food industry.

No progress has been made in this area.

No progress has been made in this area.

Assessment (November 2001)

Little progress has been recorded as regards the mechanisms and management structures of the common agricultural policy. The food processing industry must be restructured and inspection posts must be set up at the future external borders.

Slovakia must make progress on strengthening its administrative capacities. Border control systems must also be set up and food processing centres upgraded. Slovakia must also introduce the integrated administration and control system.

Please refer to the fact sheets on the adoption of the Community acquis.
