The Czech Republic - Economic Policy

Archives

Short-term priorities:

Assessment (November 2003)

Please refer to the fact sheets on the adoption of the Community acquis.

Medium-term priorities:

  • regular examination of the joint assessment of the priorities of economic policy under the Europe Agreement, emphasising adherence to the Copenhagen criteria on membership of the European Union and Community legislation in economic and monetary policy (coordinating economic policies, introducing convergenceprogrammes, fighting excessive deficits);
  • the Czech Republic will have to adopt policies for attaining real convergence according to the European Union's objectives on economic and social cohesion and a nominal convergence compatible with the ultimate objective - adoption of the Euro. However, the Czech Republic will not be obliged to adopt the Euro immediately on accession.

Assessment (October 1999)

The joint evaluation with the Commission has begun. The government continues to follow the convergence policies.

Assessment (November 2000)

These priorities have not registered any progress.

Assessment (November 2001)

The priority regarding the alignment of the Central Bank legislation to the acquis has not been met.

Assessment (October 2002)

The Czech Republic has aligned its legislation concerning the independence of the Central Bank to the acquis; this priority has therefore been met.

Assessment (November 2003)

Please refer to the fact sheets on the adoption of the Community acquis.

Following the signing of the Accession Treaty on 16 April 2003, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia acceded to the European Union on 1 May 2004.
