The European Union has set up a specific legal framework to protect consumer interests. To take account of the latest concerns of European citizens, the political priorities in this area were completely overhauled in 2007, with the adoption of a strategy for action and a financing programme costing almost 160 million euros. This framework was also supplemented with guidance material on the internal market.
