Consumers: enlargement
Citizens of the new Member States of the European Union must be permitted to enjoy the same level of protection as that applicable to all Europe's citizens from the moment that these countries become members of the EU. The applicant countries are thus required to adopt and observe the legal framework of the Community (the acquis communautaire) relating to consumer policy, given that adoption of the acquis is an essential element of the accession process.
