Call for signatures at the European Parliament for a Declaration on Age-Friendly Issues

Together with the European Parliament Intergroup Ageing and Intergenerational Solidarity, AGE Platform Europe has prepared a Written Declaration on the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations and has issued a call for members of the European Parliament is to sign it

The objective of the declaration is to support the European Year 2012 for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations as well as the creation of an age-friendly European Union through the launch of three initiatives:

  • An EU Age-Friendly Environment Network to exchange experience and good practices
  • National action plans on active and healthy ageing which will enable the involvement of a wide range of actors in the above-mentioned network
  • A Covenant of Mayors on demographic change to gather and support local and regional public authorities to promote an age-friendly EU

The deadline to sign this declaration is March, 15th. More than 160 MEPs have already signed the declaration so far, but 200 more signatures are needed for the text to be adopted within the European Parliament. Therefore, all European citizens' support in contacting their MEPs and encourage them to sign this declaration is more than welcome.

MEPs can sign the written declaration during the plenary sessions in Strasbourg and during the mini-plenary in Brussels in front of the Chambers. The declaration can also be signed in Brussels in the room PHS 02 A030.

More information on this age-friendly initiative is available here.
