Britain is “woefully underprepared” for a rapidly ageing population, warns a House of Lords report

The House of Lords Committee on Public Service and Demographic Change issued on March 14th its first report, stating that the United Kingdom is "woefully underprepared" for ageing and calling for an urgent action by Government. The Committee says that the rapidly ageing population will have a huge impact on British society and public services and unless Government and all political parties address this, the gift of longer life could lead to a series of crises.

Een succesvol Europees Jaar 2012 in Nederland wordt afgesloten met een evenement in Amsterdam dat de hele dag duurt

Meer dan 300 gasten kwamen op 28 februari in Amsterdam bijeen om deel te nemen aan het landelijke slotevenement van het Europees jaar voor actief ouder worden en solidariteit tussen generaties in Nederland. Vertegenwoordigers van verschillende generaties, culturen en belangstelling woonden het dagprogramma met films, presentaties, opvoeringen en discussies bij dat georganiseerd werd door het Nederlands Informeel Netwerk dat bij de viering van het Europees Jaar 2012 betrokken was.

The second edition of the generations@school competition invites young students and seniors to talk about Europe

Building on the success of last year’s first edition, the European Commission is launching generations@school 2013, a competition which takes the European Day of Solidarity between Generations (29 April) as an opportunity to organise activities in the classroom that bring pupils together with seniors and contribute to a better understanding of each other.
