On May 29 the winners of Way of Life literary competition for seniors organised by the Ministry of Human Resources of Hungary received their awards during a ceremony which took place in Budapest.
Organised on the occasion of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations, the contest was open to citizens over 60 years, who could submit essays about their life and memories. Texts could be also written in collaboration with their grandchildren.
Six people received ex aequo the first, second and third prizes. In addition, a special award was given to 40 participants, and other 60 received books. Five of the six winners are from Ubudja district, whose local authorities praised their keen participation in the literary initiative.
One of the winners of the first prize is Kálmán Lőrincz, who wrote an essay about his experience as an emigrant in the US, where he worked on President Carter’s house-building project. Lőrincz introduced the housing project in Hungary when he returned in the 90s and now he’s working to revitalise it as a solution for the current crisis.
