A train travels across France to change perceptions about ageing

Between September 18th and October 3rd, 2012, the “Living Well for Ageing Well Train” has been travelling throughout France to promote the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle.

Implemented by SNCF Trains Expo (the events subsidiary of the French National Railway) and several partners within the framework of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations, the aim of the initiative is to raise awareness about the fact that France, as the rest of the EU, has an ageing population and inform citizens about how to approach the future with confidence, enthusiasm and vitality. Promoters remind that one third of France’s population will be over 60 years old in 2050 and life expectancy keeps growing.

The interactive exhibition displayed in the six-coach train and the participating stations has been designed to promote the exchange of ideas and change the perception of the public about what ageing means. Hence, a wide range of innovative solutions and services that meet the concerns of seniors are part of “Living Well for Ageing Well”, such as technology products designed to help old people to live as long as possible independently, free medical advise and tests, yoga lessons and healthy cooking workshops with participating chefs.

The travelling exhibition was launched at the station of Paris Nord on September 18th and afterwards visited the cities of Rennes, Le Mans, Nantes, Tours, Bordeaux, Perpignan, Marseille, Nice, Lyon, Dijon, Strasbourg and Lille.
