KIFLI (Keeping Fit in Later Life)

The KIFLI (Keeping Fit in Later Life) Project provides resources and materials to promote physical activity among people over 50. There is currently a lack of adequate materials that show people how to integrate physical activity into everyday life. The Project will develop a framework which encourages the physical activity of older people.

KIFLI is a two year European project (2010 to 2012), involving a partnership of 7 organisations across 6 countries. It is funded by the Grundtvig Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Union.

KIFLI aims to respond to the challenges of an ageing society through:

  • Promoting increased activity among older people and providing them with a supporting framework with which to pursue physical fitness.
  • Offering realistic ways for promoting physical activities for older people.
  • Encouraging people over 50 to participate in physical activities.
  • Developing effective online training material that can be easily integrated into everyday life.
  • Developing common guidelines on training principles for older people.
  • Providing trainers and facilitators with appropriate training resources.

The aim is therefore to create a complex preventive package based on developing and distributing techniques of physical activity, based on the following results:

  •  To produce guidelines on training principles for older people.
  • To develop online training materials; an online fitness test and downloadable training videos.
  • To develop a Web 2.0 platform where older people and trainers can access online information.
  • To produce a training handbook for professionals and trainers.
  • To provide “mobilities” in Europe for users and professionals.
  • To hold a Final Conference at the end of the project so that a wider audience can learn about the project.

This project ended with a final conference on 12 October 2012, in the context of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity  between Generations 2012.
