Since 2009 the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina has been addressing ageing individuals, policymakers, companies and civil society organisations in order to promote a comprehensive approach towards ageing and to support people’s development during their lifespan.

As a commitment to the European Year for Active Ageing, Leopoldina will continue to promote the travelling exhibition "New Images of age(ing)", resulting from a photo contest celebrated by the institution in 2010. The 81 photographs displayed represent the diversity of ageing as well as the opportunities and challenges of an increasingly old society.

During 2012, the exhibition will travel to the cities of Bremen (February-April), Frankfurt (April-May), Halle (June-August) and Bergheim (November-December).

The academy will continue monitoring trends in ageing research and policymaking in its scientific commission “Demographic change”, headed by Prof. Staudinger and Prof. Holzgreve.
