Kutsemba is an association founded by a group of young Portuguese with multidisciplinary training. Within the context of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations, Kutsemba has launched the Mãos Dadas (Given Hands) project. Young and older generations are challenged to form teams and share their knowledge, skills and interests, to let their imagination run wild and strengthen intergenerational bonds.
The initiative is open to teams of two to five people, containing at least one child or teenager aged 7- 18 years old, and one senior aged 55+. Adults aged between 30-40 can also participate. Entries must be original and creative, and be related to one of the following themes: Visual arts, Literature, Music, Dance, Gymnastics, Martial Arts, Theatre, Audiovisual productions, Costume design, Creative Recycling, Sciences / engineering.
All projects must be subjected to assessment by sending in a short video or photograph, together with a summary sheet (available online). The deadline for submissions is 30 November, 2012 and results will be announced on 14 December. Winning teams will then be invited to attend a gala presentation and awards ceremony on 12 January.
Since its launch in 2010 Kutsemba has sought ways to promote solidarity, equality, sharing and collaboration between people. It aims to support and promote intergenerational cooperation, while rejecting discrimination based on prejudices associated with age.
