Ageing@Coimbra is a partnership created within the framework of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations 2012 in order to establish Portugal’s Região Centro as a European Reference Region for Healthy and Active Ageing.

Leaded by the University of Coimbra, the consortium aims to build a regional network of stakeholders implementing activities in the fields of active and healthy ageing.

The first activity of the network was the organisation of a regional conference on Active Ageing, which took place 8-9 March 2013 with near 400 participants.

Several interdisciplinary action groups have already been created within Agein@Coimbra to investigate: “Prescription and adherence to treatment”; “Personalized health management, starting with a Falls Prevention Initiative”; “Prevention and early diagnosis of frailty and functional decline, both physical and cognitive, in older people”; “Replicating and tutoring integrated care for chronic diseases, including remote monitoring at regional levels” and “Innovation for Age-friendly buildings, cities & environments”.

The overall goal of the project is to support the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP-AHA) and contribute to improve the functional independence of old people, while increasing European innovation and competitiveness.
