The European Day of Languages competition organised in the province of Trento (Italy) aims to acquaint young people with the ideas and issues tackled by the European Year 2012, by asking them about the relationship between different generations and European languages.
Participants create a 5 minutes video, which has to deal with volunteering or active ageing and solidarity between generations. The video is to be in one of the 23 official languages of the European Union.
As part of the training for the video, participants attended a one-hour session organised by Europe Direct Trentino, presenting the initiative and the European Union, its rich language diversity and the themes of European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations.
All classes from the Trentino compulsory education schools participate in the competition and the winner will be announced in an awards ceremony on 9th May 2012 at the Festival of Europe.
