Long-Term Conditions Alliance Scotland (LTCAS), an independent Scottish charity funded by the Scottish government, decided to contribute to the European Year 2012 celebrating a national learning and practice exchange conference on active ageing on April 27th in the Scottish Parliament, coinciding with the European Day for Solidarity between Generations.

The event highlighted the benefits of physical activity in promoting healthy ageing and included  the showcasing of good practice from a variety of organisations. Objectives for the event were:

  • To promote cross sector collaboration on healthy and active ageing
  • To share innovative ways to promote physical activity for older people, including those living with a disability
  • To exchange learning about the barriers and enablers for participation
  • To explore the benefits of physical activity on health and wellbeing for older people and their carers
  • To inform the development of practical guidance and case studies
  • To help partnerships make a shift to more preventative and anticipatory care

LTCAS has published the report "Path to Active Ageing" presenting research evidence and case studies to encourage the sharing of good practice.
