The Art Institute of Venice Michelangelo Guggenheim in co-operation with the association Amici del Pasinetti, Circuito Cinema, and with the support of the City and County of Venice and the Veneto Region, organised in 2012 the 9th edition of "Francesco Pasinetti" video contest.

Out of the various themes, as a commitment to European Year 2012, the video contest reserved one theme especially for high schools, art academies and universities entitled "Young people narrate the elderly". Videos were to be no longer than 15-minutes long and DVD- and mini-DV-format videos were to be sent in by 12 April 2012.

The contest, reknown for its cultural and social value, was honoured by the medal of the President of the Italian Republic. The jury was presided by Carlo Montanaro, film critic and professor at the Accademia di Belle Arti of Venice, and was composed of experts in the field and representatives of the sponsoring associations.

On the evening of the award ceremony in May, the best video shorts were shown to the public during the "Festival Francesco Pasinetti" in various venues of the city. The awarded videos of all sections were then also screened at the International Venice Film Festival (Venice Film Meeting section organized by Circuito Cinema) on 30 August.

Alessandro Tamburini's video "Amore necessario" won the first prize in the "Young told the elders" section “for knowing how to deal with irony, and for its lively and immediate freshness in dealing with a difficult subject such as a relationship of love that remains immutable in all seasons of life.”

The Art Institute of Venice "Michelangelo Guggenheim" was founded in 1872 with the aim that students learn about both art and science, to give them full knowledge of the materials they use, without resorting to the ideas of others, or making use of others to design or read drawings.
