The Third Age University of Miskolc and the Miskolc Downtown Kindergarten (Belvárosi Óvoda óvodavezetője) have developed a joint curriculum offering 38 types of activities to promote social interaction between the city's seniors clubs and kindergartens.
On the basis of this teamwork members of senior citizens clubs and children and teachers of nursery schools in Miskolc have begun to cooperate and organise activities together throughout the year. The programme started with a bunny-party for Easter on April 3 to celebrate the European Year 2012 in which 400 kindergarten-aged children and 120 elderly volunteers took part and had fun together.
The aim of this initiative is to provide these two age groups the possibility to spend time together and learn from each other. Promoters intend to show children the importance of how their grandparents lived, what kind of toys they played with, what sort of fairy tales they listened to, the food they ate and what kind of experience they had during and after the war.
On one hand grandparents can help young generations understand how they grew up without computer technology. On the other hand, children can help seniors understand how to use computers, the internet and the latest IT developments.
