The Lab 1870 intergenerational musical experiment

Lab 1870 is a unique Dutch musical project with a mix of youth under the age of 18 years and elderly people from 70 years and older.

The purpose of this musical experiment taking place during the European Year 2012 is to fight against stereotypes and demonstrate that young and older generations can be complementary in knowledge and skills. The 26 members of the band and choir are, at equal parts, students from Meander College and residents from the home for elderly Driezorg.

Started in March 2012, the youngest participant in this project is 13 years old and the eldest is 96. The members of the heterogeneous group have being rehearsing for months all kinds of music, from Coldplay to Vera Lynn classics, and on June 26th they will perform in front of a big audience at the Hedon musical venue, in Zwolle.

Lab 1870 aims to create respect between two generations, get elderly out of their isolation and, of course, have fun!
