The Bulgarian Alzheimer Compassion Foundation, together with the hospital for mental diseases and the Varna Municipality, are participating in the “Ageing with dignity” campaign on the occasion of the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations.
On 12 May and 21 September 2012, workshops and discussions will welcome doctors, Municipal representatives, senior citizens and families members of people suffering from Alzheimer and Dementia. The aim of the events is to discuss the problems faced by older people and those suffering from Alzheimer’s, and to explore ways of improving their quality of life.
On the occasion of World Alzheimer's day on 21 September, the Bulgarian Alzheimer Compassion Foundation will set up memory walks, excursions and exhibitions, as well as an information campaign to raise public awareness which will be ongoing throughout the year with press-conferences, meetings with official representatives and the public, visits to institutions for elderly people with Dementia, exhibitions, producing and disseminating information through leaflets, media events, the press, television and radio programmes etc. The goal of these activities is prevention, the recognition of the disease's symptoms and raising public awareness.

The Bulgarian Alzheimer Compassion Foundation is a nongovernmental organization, established by people suffering from Alzheimer and their families in 2004. The organization is member of Alzheimer Europe, Alzheimer's Disease International (ADI) and Eurocarers Network. The foundation's mission is to improve the quality of life for people suffering from Alzheimer and Dementia in Bulgaria, by changing the current attitude and practices towards them and providing access to treatments and social support.
