In 2011, the Senior Social Centre of Belmonte in Sabina collected stories told by seniors and shared them with the children of local primary and nursery schools. The children responded to what they had learned and understood from their peers by making them drawings, short compositions or stories. All the material was compiled into a “Book of Living History”, recorded onto CDs by volunteers and distributed free amongst the area's inhabitants, in an effort to protect the collective memory and build stronger social bonds.
The initiative continues in 2012 with "The Book of Nascent Stories". In this part of the project scheduled for August and September 2012, the young people of the area will be asked about their hopes, objectives and dreams in regards to work, love, affection, friendship, passion, peace and change.
By October 2012, these youth interviews will be compiled into a book and shared with the seniors in a special meeting at the Senior Social Centre of Belmonte in Sabina. Alongside the "Book of Living History", the intergenerational exchanges that will proceed from the initiative hope to lead the way to greater solidarity and empathy within the community.
