R&D in the coal and steel sectors
The ECSC Treaty (Article 55) and the Treaty establishing the European
Community (Title XVIII) form the legal basis of technological R&D
activities in the coal and steel sectors. The expiry of the ECSC Treaty will
mean the end of the ECSC research programme but provision has been made for
financial reserves to be used for research in the coal and steel industries
within the framework of a new European research fund.
