Now married with three children and living in Chemnitz, Germany, Etalka Kobuss was born in Budapest in 1969. She studied at the College of Education János Apáczai-Csere in Gyor, Hungary. In 1991 she married her German husband and moved with him to Chemnitz. She began her career as an IKEA sales assistant and later in 1997 she decided to study Social Pedagogy at the Technical University of Chemnitz.
Alongside her study programme, Etelka has always been engaged in social work. Subsequently in 1998, she founded a group for foreigners living in Chemnitz (Initiativgruppe Chemnitzer Ausländer), out of which the‘ Advisory Council (Ausländerbeirat) of Chemnitz’ emerged in 2002. First, Etelka was Vice Chairwoman, and then from 2004-2009 she was the Board’s Chairwoman.
Since 2009, Etelka has been Commissioner for Foreigners in Chemnitz (Ausländerbeauftragte) as well as Honorary President of the Hungarian Cultural Association of Chemnitz (Ehrenvorsitzende des Ungarischen Kulturvereins).
