Initiative title: Programa Padrino: Respect and coexistence Initiative
Description: More than a hundred European students arrive to La Rioja University Campus each year in the frame of mobility programs as Erasmus and Leonardo or in the frame of the Spanish Language Courses offered by La Rioja University Foundation, with the scope of stay in our international excellence public campus. All these students stay at the Campus for, at least, four months, depending on the length of their grants. In order to reach their full integration and to boost the relationship among Spanish and foreign students, the University Students Board created in 2004 the Padrino Program, consisting basically in assign an Spanish student for each one of the foreign students, so that he or she may be assessed and oriented about any kind of question or need they could have or about academic aspects they would want to know during their stay here in Spain All the students can practice their language skills: Students from La Rioja can talk in English, French or German at the same time that foreign students just arrived can make a start with Spanish.
To further know our culture and society, the University Students Board organize plenty of events and activities with European students, as guided visits to the main institutions of La Rioja, visits to wineries and other companies of the region, as well as many things to do for their leisure time.
425 students have already taken part on the four calls of this initiative up to now, which surely means the success of the organization of this program that expects to become a UE best practice example for EYC2013.
