International Movement ATD Fourth World: 13th European Fourth World People's UniversityBelgium

REFLECTING UPON AND CONSTRUCTING A EUROPE WITHOUT EXCLUSION TOGETHER

Venue:

In the European Parliament

Wednesday 5th March 2014

9h - 17h30

This university will bring together, on the one hand delegates coming from different European countries (Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, Great Britain, Italy, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland) - people with experience of living in poverty but also citizens who work to battle against impoverishment - and on the other hand, representatives of the European Institutions and other actors in the fight against poverty and social exclusion.

The aim of this European Fourth World People’s University - which will take place a few months before the European elections - will be to allow an exchange between individuals living in poverty, political representatives and other stakeholders from the institutions and associations, based around a discussion of challenges experienced and proposals drawn up from the experience and knowledge of people living in poverty.

The European Fourth World People’s University is one of the founding initiatives of the International Movement ATD Fourth World (All Together in Dignity), a non-governmental organisation for the protection of human rights whose aim is to eradicate poverty and exclusion by developing partnerships between those living in extreme poverty and other people and institutions.

The ambition of ATD Fourth World is to promote a change in society, based on human dignity and access to human rights for all.

In order to prepare this People's University, a working group made up of people with experience of living in poverty, other members of ATD Fourth World and individuals who either work with or work in the European institutions. These three groups used the principal of "merging knowledge" to draft a document together which is now to be used as the basis for preparing for the meeting on the 5th March. Watch the video
