Scottish European Educational Trust film competition

"Throughout the past year, the Scottish European Educational Trust has run a film competition called Our Europe: Our People, Our Places, Our Parliament. Teams from all secondary schools in Scotland were invited to take part in this competition. They were asked to create a short film to raise awareness of the positive impact of the European Parliament on the lives of young people in the EU.

The competition was organised over three stages and has been designed to offer young people the opportunity to increase their knowledge and understanding of Europe, develop their technology skills, increase their use of European languages and gain a range of transferrable skills through the creative process. The final was held at Scotland House in Brussels on Wednesday 19 June, where Bearsden Academy claimed the winning title of this year's Our Europe competition.

Both finalist teams, Douglas Academy and Bearsden Academy, had to present their films in an hour long showcase to an audience at Scotland House. A team of judges, which included a European journalist, European Parliament interpreter and Directorate General for education and culture at the European Commission, decided the overall winning team for this year's competition. Congratulations to both teams who made it so far in the competition.

This innovative project encourages the use of modern technologies and the development of language skills amongst school pupils, while increasing their understanding of the EU citizenship and policy formation. SEET has worked closely with Radio Lingua Network throughout the competition and has been supported this year by the European Parliament and Scottish Government.

The second year of the Our Europe Film Competition will begin in the Autumn term of 2013."
