2013 marks the 40th anniversary of Irish accession to the EU. This anniversary coincides with Ireland’s seventh Presidency of the Council of the EU and with the designation of 2013 as the European Year of Citizens.
In light of the successful launch of the Year of Citizens by the Taoiseach, Tánaiste and President Barroso in Dublin at the beginning of January, and to follow on from the Citizens’ Dialogue event which took place with Vice-President of the European Commission, Ms Viviane Reding, and former Minister for European Affairs, Lucinda Creighton TD, EM Ireland are pleased to host a number of Regional Dialogues around the country over the course of 2013.
To this end, we are delighted to invite you to participate in a forthcoming lunchtime dialogue in Limerick with Minister for European Affairs, Paschal Donohoe TD, and Ambassador of France in Ireland, HE Madame Emmanuelle d’Achon. This Associate Presidency event follows on from highly successful Regional Dialogues in Cork in February and Galway in April and invites citizens from Limerick and the Mid-West Region to engage in open and frank discussions about the Irish Presidency, Irish-EU relations and the forthcoming European Parliament elections with high-level political and economic figures and EU representatives.
The Dialogue will feature short presentations from a panel of speakers, after which the floor will be open to members of the audience to ask questions, raise topics of discussion and voice their issues. Further speaker details will follow shortly.
The event will take place from 1pm to 2pm in the Savoy Hotel in Limerick, with light refreshments available from 12.30pm. We look forward to seeing you on 26 September.
