Street Festival “Together since 1957”

Let’s celebrate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome together! A street festival “Together since 1957” is taking place in Budapest on 12 May. The event is organised by the European Commission’s Representation in Hungary.

2007 is a year of celebrations marking 50 years since the signing of the treaty (25 March 1957) which laid down the foundations of today's Europe.

Today, 50 years on, we belong together more than ever.  Even though we speak different languages and have different cultural heritage and traditions, our common values, (i.e. freedom, democracy, rule of law, respect of human rights and equality), unite us.

This special event is also a way of extending a warm welcome to Bulgaria and Romania, the EU's newest members.

The Street Festival is taking place at the beginning of May, on the first weekend after the celebration of Europe Day.

The co-organiser of the event is the European Parliament Information Office in Budapest.

Main events:

- cultural programmes, music and entertainment on the stage (including Bulgarian and Romanian folk art performances), with famous artists

- a street party in the evening

- EU quiz

- information tents (European Commission, European Parliament, European Court of Auditors, CHANGE campaign, Europe Direct/Team Europe, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bulgaria, Romania, NGOs)

- tent with activities for kids
